Koricha currently stocks handcrafted straw baskets. These baskets are made in Ethiopia in various designs, sizes, shapes and colors. Most of these products have practical daily uses in the African community and through these artifacts, we will introduce to you, the different cultures of Africa and create connections. In addition to providing individuals in the community with our products and services, we will hopefully work with government organizations and large businesses and assist in diversity programs across the country and promoting an environmentally friendly workplace.
Artistic and beautiful handcrafted Ethiopian wicker baskets are made all over Ethiopia. The region of Harar in Ethiopia is known to produce some of the most intricate and colorful baskets in Ethiopia. The shapes, sizes, patterns and complexity of the baskets vary greatly, reflecting the diverse culture and history of Ethiopia and it's people.
Each of our baskets are handcrafted by our artisans. The natural straw, known as "SINDEDO" in the local language 'Amharic', is soaked in color "ASLA". The straw is threaded into beautiful baskets using a large threading needle called a "SEBEZ", the designs are the artist's own.
